(3-3) A Study on Word Recognition of Cerebral Palsy Children
<Abstract>
Cerebral palsy children have difficulty doing reading. Although they have normal intelligence, their reading skills are much lower than it of normal children. The goal of this study of reading ability of cerebral palsy children is two-fold. First, what is a contributory factor of the limited reading ability? Second, what kind of dependent variables is with reference to phonological awareness processing? The dependent variables include letter, reading skills, word recognition. A reading processing is word recognition and reading comprehension. Word recognition skills have a crucial role in early reading processing. In accordance with, an investigation about word recognition is necessary for improvement of reading ability for cerebral palsy children.
Therefore, this study is concerned with finding out the results of previous research studies in reference to word recognition for cerebral palsy children. On the basis of the results, this study also focuses on a very effective reading task for word recognition of cerebral palsy children.
The results of the study are as follows;
First, word recognition of cerebral palsy could be better predicted by phonological working memory task than phonological awareness task.
Second, word recognition of cerebral palsy was affected by pseudo-word reading task than word reading task.
In conclusion, phonological working memory and pseudo-word reading are the primary factor in word recognition of cerebral palsy.
