(3-5) A study of convergence intervention program for students with disabilities

<Abstract>

This study explores attention span of students with disabilities who have difficulty with self regulation. The convergence intervention program which have boccia activity, diet, and communication intervention was conducted. To this purpose boccia activities, communication intervention, and drinking water intervention were conducted. Boccia activities provide emotional stability, mental strengthening, as well as psychological rehabilitation(Lee, Jae Won, 2006). In addition, according to Yang Ok Seung and Hye-ri Kim (1995), the communication program is helpful to improve the self-regulation. And in the study of Kim Seung Ran (2008), drinking water was found to be effective in improving the attention span. This study, based on previous studies, seeks the effects of convergence intervention program of Boccia, communication intervention and drinking water.
The subjects of this study were 5 students with disabilities in A middle school, K city. These students usually have short attention span as well as behavioral problems. After intervention, their classroom activities were observed and recorded.
The results of this study show that convergence intervention was helpful to improve attention span as well as other behaviors in classroom activities. Therefore, it is important to develop various convergence intervention program in order to seek the effects for students with disabilities.
