[AAPT] - "Young Physics Ambassadors" to Taiwan Symposium(WYP 2005)

Thousands of pre-college students in at least 20 countries on five continents participated in the Physics Talent Search, which aims to create enthusiasm, interest, and participation in physics among young people. Most of the activities emphasized student creativity, curiosity, and initiative.

In August 2005, Ching-Ray Chang from Taipei, Taiwan, invited each country to send six Young Ambassadors and one adult leader to participate in a scientific conference.

The Symposium runs from Dec. 31, 2005, to Jan. 4, 2006. Visit the official website at: http://www.learning.tku.edu.tw/2005physics/

The International Coordinating Committee for the Talent Search, chaired by Beverly Karplus Hartline (USA), with cooperation from AAPT, was awarded a travel grant from NSF for six Young Ambassadors from the United States and each of five developing countries: Argentina, Cameroon, Ghana, Indonesia, and Tanzania. These students and chaperones will participate in sharing common goals: stimulating student interest in physics/science, rewarding student excellence; and encouraging international networking, awareness, friendships, and sensitivity. Nobel Laureates and other leading scientists will participate as speakers, inspirational mentors, and role models for the students.
