Science Teacher Education for the 21st Century in South Korea
It is my privilege to address to the members of The Korean Association for Research Science Education. It is especially the case because South Korea has been recognized as one of the fastest developing industrial and technological nations in the world. The world has been watching this spectacular growth with respect and curiosity.
The title of my presentation, "science teacher education for the 21st century in South Korean", is rather overwhelming. My intent is not to prescribe what course of action the science education community in South Korea should take for teacher education. Rather, I Would like to address some issues of science teacher education to be considered as we enter the 21st century. In the context of rapid technological advances during the last several decades in South Korea, it seems an opportune time to reflect on the past and the present and to use the insights gained from this reflection in designing science teachers education for the next century.
